The world’s oldest person, Edna Parker, died on November 26th 2008 in Shelbyville, Indiana, USA. Born on April 20, 1893 in Shelby County, near the township of Bengal in Indiana, she assumed the title on August 13th 2007, when the world’s then-oldest person died.
A schoolteacher married to a farmer, Edna enjoyed excellent health for nearly all her life; widowed at 48, she carried on living alone in her farmhouse until the age of 100, when she moved in with her son and his wife. After a fall and a close brush with hypothermia the next winter, she moved into the nursing home where she died. (When asked for tips on living to a ripe old age, all she would say was “Get education!” Sagittarius rising, perhaps?)
